As a general rule during all WinTV installations on Windows XP systems, be sure that you are disconnected from any LAN/WAN, and that the WinTV CD rom disk is not in your CD drive when installing any of the software updates from our website.

If you are having problems: If you are having trouble with the WinTV installation on Windows XP, download and run the Hcwclear utility and run this to remove the existing WinTV files from the system. IR Remote error: "The Procedure Entry Point SUnMapLS could not be located in the dynamic link library Kernal32.dll": Run the HCWCLEAR utility from your WinTV CD rom, choosing "total removal" and put a checkmark in the box for "Search all .INF files for conflicting Bt8xx hardware" Click OK. Reload the latest WinTV Driver, Application, and IR32 software. If this does not correct the issue, download and install the WinTV VFW drivers.

Error when Recording video: "C_DVC access is denied" and Error in pause mode: "c:\wintv access is denied". The default capture and pause paths must be changed from C:\ to a different directory. Click Pref, Capture, and MPEG. Then click the Browse button. Change the DVCR record path and the Pause mode record path to a different directory other than the root C:\ and click OK.

This error will only come up if the VFW drivers have been installed on the system. For example, if you had a different model WinTV installed that requires VFW drivers and installed the PVR 250/350 software over it, you may get this error. You may also get this error if you have downloaded and installed the PVR PCI updated drivers mistakenly.

Your PC will need a software MPEG-2 decoder in order to watch TV or play DVD movies in Media Center. All new Media Center computers come with the correct MPEG decoder pre-installed. But if you are building a new PC, Microsoft requires an approved DVD decoder to be installed on any MCE system with a TV tuner in order to view TV.
Windows Media Center does not support digital TV service in Canada so you would need to choose United sates as the region and select a US zip code close to your area to setup ATSC. What other software can be used with the WinTV MCE models on MCE? You may use Sage TV, Beyond TV or any of the other excellent third party TV tuner applications with a WinTV Media Center product. These programs allow you to have similar Media Center functions.
NOTE: To save your WinTV channel list, you may save the file HcwChanDB_5.mdb (which is located in the C:/users/public/wintv:for vista/windows 7 or C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\WinTV: for XP) into a temporary folder, and copy this file back into the WinTV directory after any re-installation to preserve your channel list.
