Water, Air, & Soil Pollution is an international, interdisciplinary journal on all aspects of pollution and solutions to pollution in the biosphere. This includes chemical, physical and biological processes affecting flora, fauna, water, air and soil in relation to environmental pollution. Because of its scope, the subject areas are diverse and include all aspects of pollution sources, transport, deposition, accumulation, acid precipitation, atmospheric pollution, metals, aquatic pollution including marine pollution, Arctic /Antarctic pollution, water, ground water, waste water, micro-plastics, nanoparticles, pesticides, environmental sustainability, soil pollution, industrial pollutants, sewage, sediment pollution, forestry pollution, effects of pollutants on humans, vegetation, fish, aquatic species, micro-organisms, and animals. Submissions are welcome in environmental and molecular toxicology applied to pollution research, biosensors, global and climate change, ecological implications of pollution and pollution models. Water, Air, & Soil Pollution also publishes manuscripts on methods used in the study of environmental pollutants, environmental toxicology, environmental biology and chemistry, bioassays, novel environmental engineering and bioreactors related to pollution, remote sensing, biochar in pollution control, environmental genomics applied to pollution research, biodiversity as influenced by pollution, environmental biotechnology as applied to pollution (e.g., bioremediation, phytoremediation, biofuels), environmental modelling and biorestoration of polluted environments.


Articles should not be submitted that are of local interest only and do not advance international knowledge in environmental pollution and solutions to pollution. Articles that simply replicate known knowledge or techniques while researching a local pollution problem will normally be rejected without review. Submitted articles must have up-to-date references, employ the correct experimental replication and statistical analysis, where needed and contain a significant contribution to new knowledge. In late 2019, a novel infectious disease with human to human transmission (COVID-19) was identified in Wuhan China, which now has turned into a global pandemic. Countries all over the world have implemented some sort of lockdown to slow down its infection and mitigate it. Lockdown due to COVID-19 has drastic effects on social and economic fronts. However, this lockdown also has some positive effect on natural environment. Recent data released by NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) and ESA (European Space Agency) indicates that pollution in some of the epicenters of COVID-19 such as Wuhan, Italy, Spain and USA etc. has reduced up to 30%. This study compiled the environmental data released by NASA and ESA before and after the coronavirus pandemic and discusses its impact on environmental quality.


Environmental Pollution means pollution which is degrading the environment. The environment is very necessary to lead a healthy life. Our environment shapes a very important aspect of human life because that is where we find the requirements of life like air, water, and food. Due to global industrialization and modernization, there has been environmental pollution. Our lifestyle has also changed. The animals are on the verge of extinct day by day. The panda, the white tiger, Albatross are now not to be seen. They are few only and if environmental pollution continues then we are going to lose our animals in a few decades. The harmful and toxic gases which release 247 from the factories are mixing with air, thus causing air pollution. People dump all the waste materials in the river and sea, this way the water is also getting poisoned every day. The marine species like fish, whales, and dolphins are the worst sufferers. Their valuable lives are also lost. Soil erosion is one of the causes of soil pollution. We humans can save our Earth by planting trees. If we plant trees then once again our Earth will be green. We should not cut trees also, then it will make deforestation, and the top portion of the soil will be lost.


Industrialization, use of pesticides and nitrogen-based fertilizers, crop residues in agriculture, urbanization, forest fires, desert dust, and inadequate waste management have intensified environmental health risks and pollution, especially in low-and-middle-income-countries. At the same time, the global economy relies on deeply intertwined supply chains, sustained by more than 100 billion tons of raw materials entering the system each year. Intensive material consumption depletes natural resources and causes negative environmental impacts at every stage of the product life-cycle including production, use phase, and end-of-life. Global waste is expected to increase to 3.4 billion tons by 2050.


As the leading environmental risk to health, air pollution is particularly challenging. A recent World Bank publication found that air pollution cost the globe an estimated $8.1 trillion in 2019, equivalent to 6.1 percent of global GDP. More than 95 percent of deaths caused by air pollution occur in low- and middle- income countries. In individual countries, the economic burden of pollution associated with premature mortality and morbidity is also significant, equivalent to 5 to 14 percent of countries' GDPs.


Working jointly with client countries, the Bank also carries out analytical work to identify environmental priorities for poverty alleviation. Recent analytical work conducted by the Bank assessed the global estimates of the health burden of outdoor air pollution and the implications for low- and middle-income countries. Another study addressed opportunities and challenges for air quality data gaps in low- and middle-income countries. Other analytical work has assessed the performance of satellite for air quality measurements in low- and middle-income countries; as well as the health implications of exposure to natural dust and chemical constituents and sources of fine particulate matter. In addition, interventions for reducing air pollution have been developed along with work that addresses the linkages between pollution, health, climate change and fiscal solutions.


The China: Hunan Integrated Management of Agricultural Land Pollution Project is demonstrating a risk-based approach to manage heavy metal pollution in agricultural land. The project is also strengthening agricultural environmental monitoring and management and includes training activities tailored to the needs of government officials, environmental monitoring staff, and farmers.

There can be environmental advantages as well as disadvantages. Advantages include access to green spaces, clean water and air, and others. Disadvantages can be hazards from waste or industrial facilities, air or noise pollution from traffic, as well as other detrimental environmental hazards.


Environmental injustice can have devastating effects on the health and morbidity of those living in underprivileged minority communities. These communities suffer from considerable exposure to environmental hazards such as toxic substances, polluted water or air, or dangerously high levels of air pollution from traffic sources.


Constant exposure to pollutants and toxic substances in water or air can also cause early deaths. According to Newsweek, 200,000 Americans die each year due to environmental pollution, with lower-income communities as well as Black communities disproportionately affected.


Environmental and ecological economics are both sub-fields of economic thought that study the interactions between human activity and the natural environment.
